My ReLEx SMILE Laser Eye Procedure Experience – Part 2

Hi everyone!

In the preview post, I have already talked about the procedure which was done in the afternoon. In this post, I will talk about my experience after the procedure.

The doctor had given me the following items:

  1. Two types of eye drops (1 milky and another light bluish),
  2. artificial tears for lubrication
  3. painkillers
  4. eye shield with tape

I think one of the eye drop was to prevent infection.  The doctor told to me only take one painkiller if the pain is unbearable. I had to put the eye shield before sleeping to protect my eyes when I am sleep (in case I scratch my eyes).

Eye shield
Two eye shields with tape (provided)

These were the instructions to protect the eyes:

  1. Avoid contact sports for one month.
  2. Avoid swimming or getting tap water in eyes (for a month)
  3. Wash face using distilled water (for a month).
  4. Wear eye shield when sleeping (for a month.
  5. Wear sunglasses when going outside (I wore them indoors too).

During the procedure, I didn’t feel that much pain because of the anesthesia (very slightly only) but while I was going home, my left eye was tearing up. In the taxi ride, I fell asleep and when we got home, I went straight to bed. After few hours, I woke up. Mum had  cooked some porridge for me so that it is easier to eat. My eyes were still tearing up (left one a lot more) so I had tissue paper in my hand to wipe them all the time. Also I didn’t want to rub my eyes so I had to wipe them after they reached my cheeks. I ate the porridge with my eyes closed (it was not easy) but I couldn’t open my eyes properly because of tearing and also the light felt bright. After eating, I took a painkiller because I felt slight pain in my eyes and Mum helped to put on the eye shield as I couldn’t see anything. It was already night so I went to sleep and woke up next day.

Then, OMG!

When I opened my eyes, I could see everything clearly!! (through the eye shield of course).  I felt so happy to be able to see so clearly with my naked eyes. I looked outside the window and I could see everything, I felt extremely happy. It was all worth it.  After I washed my face with distilled water, I put on the sunglasses. I had appointment to see the doctor so I went back to the centre and went through the check up, everything was fine.

After the operation, there will be eye check up until 6 months (a total of 5 check-ups).

  1.  Post-surgery check-up within 3 days ( mine was scheduled the next day)
  2.  A week after the surgery
  3.  A month after the surgery
  4.  Three months after the surgery
  5.  Six months after the surgery

I have just went for the last check-up and my eyes are fine, my  vision is good too. My right eye is a bit dry but its not serious.

Do I regret getting this procedure done?

No, not at all.  I am very happy with the result. Every time, I walk along the street, I enjoy looking at the scenery while feeling happy with my vision. Now when I go on trips, I don’t have to bother about carrying contact lenses with cleansers and feeling uncomfortable with contact lenses with dry eyes.  So, if you are considering doing ReLEx SMILE procedure then just do some research and go for it. I have no regrets.
